Revision bill to enforce rental car speed-limiters still pending

Jeju was found to have the highest number of deaths caused by rental car accidents in the country during the summer.

According to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Jeju had the highest number of deaths in rental car accidents over the past 5 years during July and August with 14 casualties.

41 percent out of all deaths caused by rental car accidents over the past 5 years in Jeju have occurred during the summer vacation season. This is more than twice the national average.

An ordinance amendment has been proposed to install speed-limiting devices in all rental cars compulsorily to reduce car accidents. However, it has been on hold at the National Assembly for years.

렌터카 사망사고 가운데
여름 휴가철 발생 비율도 제주가 41%로
전국 평균보다 배 이상 높았습니다.

렌터카 교통사고를 줄이기 위해
제주도내 모든 렌터카에
속도 제한 장치를 의무화하는 내용의 법 개정이 추진되고 있지만
수년째 국회에서 계류중입니다.
