5. Local construction industry remains sluggish
New contracts decrease by 28% from 2018

The local construction industry continues to slump.

According to the Jeju branch of the Construction Association of Korea, local construction companies got 295 new contracts worth 238 billion won. That’s 28 percent fewer than the same period last year.

That includes 144 contracts worth 150 billion won for general construction work and 151 contracts worth 87 billion won for civil engineering projects. General construction work decreased by 16% and civil engineering projects reduced by 38%.

Construction work in the public sector reduced by 23 percent, but the work in private sector increased by 9 percent from the first half of 2018.

올 상반기 도내 종합건설사의 신규 도급 공사는
295건에 2천 380억원으로
지난해 같은 기간과 비교해 액수로는 28% 감소했습니다.

건축공사가 144건에 1천 500억원으로 16%,
토목공사는
151건에 870억원으로 38% 줄었습니다.

부문별로 보면
공공부문이 23% 감소했고 민간부문은 9% 증가했습니다.
