1. Land Ministry announces basic plan for new port development project
Construction project to start in 2023 and finish by 2040

The construction project of a new port in the island will be pushed forward.

Seoul finalized the basic plan of the nationwide new port construction project at a meeting at the Government Complex in Sejong City on August 1st. The finalized basic plan also covers that of the construction project of a new port in Jeju.

Seoul will spend 2.86 trillion won to create the Jeju New Port by 2040. The new port’s outer and berth facilities will be built on the planned site in Samdo, Geonip and Yongdam-dong in Jeju City.

The berth facilities will be built to accommodate four 220 thousand-ton international ships and nine domestic ferries at the same time.

Nearby sites will be developed into a complex for business, culture and tourism.

Construction will begin in 2023 after officials conduct a preliminary feasibility study, an environmental impact assessment and finish compensation for fishing rights.

The province expects the new port to attract 4 million tourists annually and foster an eco-friendly home port for cruise ships..

제주신항만 개발사업 고시…2023년 착공

제주신항망 건설사업이 본격 추진될 전망입니다.

정부는 1일 오전 정부세종청사에서
제86차 국정현안점검 조정회의를 개최하고
제주신항만을 포함한
제2차 신항만건설기본계획을 심의확정했습니다.

이에 따라 제주신항만은
오는 2040년까지 사업비 2조 8천 600억원을 투입해
제주시 삼도.건입.용담 일대에
항만 외곽시설과 접안시설,
배후부지에 대한 개발사업을 추진하게 됩니다.

특히 접안시설은
22만톤급의 크루즈 4척과
여객선 9척을 동시에 접안할 수 있는 규모로 조성됩니다.

또 배후부지는 사업과 문화, 관광 복합지구로 개발하게 됩니다.

앞으로 예비타당성조사와 환경영향평가,
어업권 보상 등 관련 절차를 거쳐
오는 2023년 착공을 목표로 추진됩니다.

제주도는 제주신항 완공으로
연간 400만명의 관광객 수용은 물론
친환경 크루즈 모항 육성을 기대하고 있습니다.
