Committee argues province infringing property rights

A joint committee of six villages in Jeju is demanding the province to withdraw its plan to additionally designate private property as protected Gotjawal areas.

The committee held a press conference in front of the provincial government building on Wednesday and argued that the province newly designated some 2,900 plots of land totalling 36 square kilometers as protected Gotjawal areas without consulting the land owners.

Committee members also insisted that the local government publicly disclose land owners and villages owning land in the protected areas and seek consent from the owners on the Gotjawal designation plan.

대책위원회는 7일 제주도청 앞에서 기자회견을 열고
제주도는 토지 소유자들에게 알리지도 않은 채
2천 9백여 필지,
36제곱킬로미터에 달하는 지역을
재산권 행사가 불가능한
신규 곶자왈 보호지역에 포함시켰다고 주장했습니다.

그러면서 제주도는 지금이라도
개인 토지주와 공동목장을 소유한 마을들을 구체적으로 공개해
곶자왈 보호지역 지정에 대한
동의를 구해야 한다고 요구했습니다.
