2. Groups of Korean artists join anti-Japanese movement
Artists demand apology and compensation for victims

The Jeju and Korean People’s Artist Federation made a joint statement to join the anti-Japan movement on Thursday.

The groups criticized Japan for taking economic retaliatory measures just right before the National Liberation Day of Korea. They also said that Japan is oppressing artistic expression by suspending exhibition of Statue of Peace, which represents Korean comfort women during the Japanese colonial period.

They said they will continue to concentrate all their efforts to join the movement and boycott until Japan apologizes and properly compensates all victims.

8일 공동 성명을 내고
반일 운동에 동참하겠다고 선언했습니다.

이들 단체는
일본이 광복절을 앞두고
제2의 경제보복 조치를 취했을 뿐 아니라
평화의 소녀상 전시 중단 등
예술적 탄압과 압박을 하고 있다고 비판했습니다.

그러면서
일본의 사죄와 배상이 온전히 이뤄질 때까지
민족예술의 역량을 모아 항일 투쟁에 집중하고
일본상품은 쳐다 보지도 않겠다고 강조했습니다.
