4. Scientists create Jeju perch, giant grouper hybrid
Further research will determine suitability for fish farms

The Jeju Fisheries Research Institute succeeded in artificially creating a new fish species called ‘Daewang Jabari’.

The fish was created by crossbreeding Jeju’s indigenous perch and the giant grouper, which grows fast in high temperatures.

The institute plans to conduct an experiment to determine the most suitable water temperature for the fish’s growth. Researchers will also analyze whether it can be grown in fish farms.
