4. Gama Oreum Cave Fortification to open in 2nd half of 2020
Opening date postponed due to prolonged repair work

The opening date of the cave fortification at Gama Oreum in Han-gyeong-myeon has been postponed to the 2nd half of next year.

The cave fortification is a labyrinth of tunnels dug by the Japanese Army in the final stage of WWII. The cave is registered as the national cultural heritage no. 308.

The province planned to open the cave fortification to the public in the second half of this year. However, officials decided to postpone the opening date to the end of next year due to prolonged repairs.

The cave was put under repairs since last year after it received the lowest grade in a safety test conducted by the Cultural Heritage Administration in 2017.

일제시대 당시 일본군이 구축한
제주 가마오름 동굴진지 개방이 미뤄집니다.

제주도는 국가등록 문화재 308호인
한경면 가마오름 동굴진지를
올 하반기에 개방할 계획이었지만
보수공사 기간이 길어지며
일년 뒤인 내년 말로 늦추기로 했습니다.

한편 가마오름 동굴진지는
지난 2017년 문화재청이 실시한 안전진단에서
가장 낮은 등급의 F등급을 받고
지난해부터 보수공사를 실시하고 있습니다.
