‘Low possibility of finding new evidence’: Prosecutors

In related news, the local prosecutors' office decided to drop its appeal against the court's ruling in favor of criminal compensation suits filed by 18 survivors of the April 3rd Incident.

The decision was made in consideration of the low possibility of finding new evidence that may reverse the court ruling and the underlying sentiments of islanders regarding the tragic historical event.

Meanwhile, the Jeju District Court accepted all claims for criminal compensations made by the survivors and bereaved families last February.

4·3생존수형인 18명이 제기한
형사보상 청구에 대한
재판부의 인용 결정에 대해
즉시항고를 포기하기로 결정했습니다.

검찰 관계자는
인용 결정을 번복 시킬만한
새로운 증거가 발견될 가능성이 희박하고
제주도민들에 대한 4·3 사건의 정서 등으로
항소 포기를 결정했다 밝혔습니다.

한편, 제주지방법원은
지난 21일 4.3생존수형인과 가족 등이
지난 2월 청구한
불법 구금 형사보상 청구를 모두 받아 들였습니다.
