Proposal seeks funds, administrative support to promote ancient board game

Provincial Councilor Park Ho-hyeong proposed an ordinance to promote to promote baduk, or "go" as it is known more commonly by its Japanese name. Its main focus is to establish a stadium dedicated to the abstract strategy board game.

The ordinance asks the governor to provide financial and administrative support for the establishment of a baduk-only stadium and promotion of the game.

According to the Korea Baduk Association, there aren’t any baduk-only stadiums operated by the government or local governments in Korea.

제주지역에 바둑 전용경기장을 설립하는 방안이 추진됩니다.

바둑 전용경기장 조성을 골자로 한
바둑 진흥 지원조례 제정안을 대표 발의했습니다.

조례안은
도지사가 전용경기장 조성 설립을 비롯해
바둑 진흥에 필요한 시책을 수립하고
행정, 재정적으로 지원하도록 했습니다.

대한바둑협회에 따르면
정부나 지방자치단체가 운영하는
바둑 전용경기장은
전국에 한 곳도 없는 것으로 파악되고 있습니다.
