Committee expresses concern for lack of local consensus

The provincial council defers offshore wind farm project in Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo City.

The provincial council’s Economic Committee on Agricultural, Fisheries and Livestock shelved the motion submitted by the provincial government to designate Daejeong-eup a offshore wind farm district during the preliminary session held on Thursday.

The committee decided to hold the review due to insufficient communication with residents living nearby the planned site. They also pointed out that the investigation on its effects to the local marine ecosystem was insufficient.

The project was passed by a committee reviewing wind generator projects in Jeju last August. It contains plans to install a 100-megawatt power plant in the 5.5-square-kilometre of public waters at Dongil-ri, Daejeong-eup.

19일 열린 임시회 회의에서
제주도가 제출한 대정해상풍력발전 시범지구 지정 동의안을 심사보류했습니다.

위원회는
주변 마을과 충분한 소통과 협의 없이 사업을 추진할 경우
갈등이 불거질 수 있고
해양생태계에 미치는 영향 조사가 부실하다며
이번 회기에서 심사하지 않기로 결정했습니다.

대정해상풍력발전 사업은
대정읍 동일리 공유수면 5.5제곱킬러미터 해상에
100메가와트급 발전시설을 갖추는 내용으로
지난 8월 제주도 풍력발전사업심의위원회를
통과했습니다.
