Provincial council expresses agreement

The province has decided to introduce a license renewal system for casinos in Jeju to increase their contribution to the local community.

The provincial government’s Tourism Bureau Director Kang Yeong-don presented the results of a study on casino industry impact on local communities at the provincial council's Culture, Tourism and Sports Committee meeting on Monday and stated plans to introduce a casino license renewal system.

Kang stressed the need to strengthen management of casino business by renewing their licenses every five years depending on their level of contribution to the local community.

The provincial council's Culture, Tourism and Sports Committee agreed on the introduction of the license renewal system, saying it is important to evaluate casino businesses after issuing licenses.
