5. 100th National Sports Festival torch lights up at Marado island
Torch relay to continue across the nation through Oct. 4

With the 100th National Sports Festival just a week away, the torch was lit in the southernmost part of the Korean Peninsula at Marado Island.

20 Marado residents, including Seogwipo City Mayor, attended the torch lighting ceremony in Marado island on Thursday at 2 p.m. They read aloud the declaration and a greeting message.

The torch relay began with the first torchbearer, Park Jong-ok, the lighthouse director of Marado island. The torch was then delivered to Kim Hee-joo, the head of a village of Marado island, and subsequently to students attending a school in Marado island.

This year, the torch lighting ceremony also took place at Manisan Mountain in Ganghwado, Imjingak, and Dokdo island.

Torch relay will continue across the nation through October 4th.

전국체전 성화 마라도서 '채화'

제100회 전국체전이
일주일여 앞으로 다가온 가운데
한반도 최남단 마라도에서
성화가 채화됐습니다.

26일 오후 2시
마라도에서 열린 성화 채화식에는
서귀포시장을 비롯해 마라도 주민 20여 명이 참석해
선언문과 인사말을 낭독한 뒤
함께 성화를 채화했습니다.

채화된 불꽃은
첫 봉송 주자인 박종옥 마라도 등대소장과
김희주 마라도 이장, 마라분교생 등에게 차례로 전달됐습니다.

올해 체전 성화는
전국체전 100주년을 기념해
마라도 외에도 독도와 임진각에서도 함께 채화됐습니다.
