Rise in public utility charges and taxi fares negates the drop

Local consumer prices dropped for the first time in history.

According to the Honam Regional Statistical Office, local consumer prices fell 0.2 percent in September compared to the same period of time last year. It is the first time in recorded history that marking a decline of consumer prices from the previous year.

The report showed that prices of agricultural, livestock and fishery products fell 6.6 percent from last year and prices of petroleum and other industrial products also decreased significantly.

However, the rate of the price drop in Jeju was lower than that of the entire country as the rise in local public utility charges such as water and taxi fares rised.

지난달 제주지역 소비자 물가는
지난해 같은 기간에 비해 0.2% 떨어져
통계 작성 이후 처음으로
전년동월대비 마이너스로 집계됐습니다.

농축수산물이 지난해 대비 6.6% 하락했고,
석유류 등의 공업제품 가격도 크게 하락한 것으로 나타났습니다.

다만, 상하수도요금과 택시비 등 공공요금이 올라
전국대비 물가 하락률은 낮았습니다.
