2. Province to study natural caves
Research to last 6 months in west Jeju City

The provincial government will examine non-designated natural caves located in the western area of Jeju City.

Researchers will evaluate the academic and cultural value of the caves by researching their location, size and status for 6 months.

Although some natural caves are thought to be located all over the island, there have been no subsequent studies conducted since Cultural Heritage Administration cave survey in 2003.

비지정 천연동굴에 대한 실태조사를 진행하기로 하고,
최근 용역을 발주했습니다.

이번 조사는
천연동굴의 위치와 규모, 관리실태 등 현황을 조사해
동굴에 대한 학술적,
문화재적 가치를 평가하기 위한 것입니다.

조사는
착수일로부터 6개월 동안
제주시 서부지역 일원을 대상으로 진행됩니다.

제주에는 비지정 천연동굴이
곳곳에 산재한 것으로 추정되고 있지만
2003년 문화재청 일제조사 이후
지금까지 후속 조사는 진행되지 않았습니다.
