4. New garlic species 'Daesani' put to test
Daesani to replace ‘Namdo Garlic’

The Jeju National Agricultural Technology Center will grow a new type of garlic that is resistant to diseases and pests. The test variety will be called 'Daesani'.

The center decided to cultivate ‘Daesani’ at five local farms at 2.1 hectares of land to replace ‘Namdo Garlic’, which is less productive due to its vulnerability to virus infections.

Officials have applied for protection of new varieties of plants for ‘Daesani’ in 2016 and plan to further supply the species for cultivation as it generates a large yield and shows high resistance to blights.

A total of 2,100 hectares of land in Jeju is used for garlic cultivation for a total of 100 billion won in sales.

지난 2016년
품종보호 출원을 마친 '대사니'는
병해충에 강하고 수확량도 많아
앞으로 보급을 확대할 계획입니다.

제주지역 마늘 재배면적은 2천 1백 ha,
조수입은 1천억 원에 달하고 있습니다.
