1. Governor Won refuses petition from provincial council
Province will not fund public opinion survey on 2nd airport

Governor Won Hee-ryong said that he will not cooperate with the provincial council to conduct a public opinion poll to gather islander’s opinion on the island’s second airport.

Governor Won held a press conference at the provincial government on Thursday and said that he has already officially rejected the petition for a public survey from provincial council. This means that the provincial government will not fund the public opinion poll.

The provincial council, however, has proposed a resolution to form a special committee to publicize the issues on the island’s new airport.

Won said that he will only deliver the survey results to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport before the deadline.

He added that it is impossible to announce the basic plan for the second airport within this month and that he will consult with the Land Ministry when asked to submit his opinion.

10일 도청 기자실에서 기자간담회를 열고
도의회의 공론조사 예산을
제주도에서 지원할 의사가 있느냐는 질문에
이미 청원에 대한 거부 입장을
공식적으로 의회에 전달했다며
사실상 예산을 지원하지 않겠다는 뜻을 내비쳤습니다.

도의회 공론조사 결과를 국토부에 전달할지에 대해서는
의견 제출 기한 이전에 취합된
도민 찬반의견만 전하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

원 지사는
이번 달 제2공항 기본계획 고시는 불가능하다며
앞으로 국토부에서 의견 제출 요청이 들어오면
협의하겠다고 덧붙였습니다.
