3. Community farms on Jeju being bought by developers
14 farms lost in the past decade

It has been revealed that over the past decade, parts of the community farm that was initially 36 times the size of Marado Island has virtually disappeared from Jeju island.

In a parliamentary meeting on the 15th, Park Wan-joo, a member of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Food, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Committee, reported that the number of community farms in villages has drastically decreased. What has been known to be a unique aspect of Jeju’s culture has dropped from 65 farms in 2009 to 51 in recent years.

It was reported that due to the simple process of purchasing these lands, over 1,000 hectares has been lost to real estate developers.

Park stressed that in order to protect these community farms, the government should register them as a special national agricultural heritage and actively seek to purchase private land or reduce rent on public land.

사유지 매입이나 국.공유지 임차료 인하에
적극적으로 나서야 한다고 강조했습니다.
