Land minister: Land ministry will follow determination of Jeju

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it will follow the province’s decision whether to hold a public opinion poll on the island’s second airport.

During the parliamentary audit of the Land Ministry on Monday, Land Minister Kim Hyun-mee responded to lawmaker Chung Dong-young’s statement regarding the need for a public opinion poll.

She said Land Ministry will follow the province’s decision regarding the public survey, as it was the province that asked the Land Ministry to approve the construction project in the first place.

However, Governor Won Hee-ryong had said during a recent parliamentary audit that the public opinion poll can take place if the land minister asks for it to the provincial government.

김 장관은 제2공항 사업을 해달라고 요청한 것은
제주도였던 만큼,
제주도가 어느 방식으로 할지 결정하면
따르겠다고 말했습니다.

반면 원희룡 제주도지사는 최근 국정감사에서
제2공항 주민투표를 하려면
국토부 장관이
제주도에 요구해야 한다고 답변한 바 있습니다.
