Disabled women in the island earn 720k on average

Recent study revealed a huge gender discrepancy in the labor force participation rate of the disabled.

The Jeju Women and Family Research Institute’s recent study showed that the labor force participation rate of disabled women and men was 20.7 percent and 52 percent, respectively.

In particular, 54.7 percent of employed disabled women were found working in companies with fewer than four employees. Also their monthly salary was 720,000 won, which is about a third of that of disabled men.

The institute said there is a need to build social infrastructure and improve disability awareness to ensure higher satisfaction in life for disabled women.

제주여성가족연구원은 최근 발간한
여성장애인 취업활성화 방안 연구를 통해
여성장애인의 경제활동 참여율은 20.7%,
남성장애인이 52%로 나타났다고 밝혔습니다.

특히 경제활동에 참여하는 여성장애인의 54.7%는
4인 미만 기업체에서 근무하고 있으며
월 평균 임금도 약 72만 원으로
남성의 208만 원보다 낮은 것으로 나타났습니다.

연구원은
여성장애인에게 직업은
자아존재감의 근거이자 삶의 활력소라며
취업활성화를 위한
인프라 구축과 인식 개선이 필요하다고 강조했습니다.
