Number continues to grow despite high closure rate

A study found that more than 60 percent of coffee stores in Jeju run out of business within 3 years, marking the highest closure rate in the nation.

According to an analytical report by KB Financial Group, 62.8 percent of local coffee shops didn’t last more than 3 years. This was the highest closure rate among 17 local governments nationwide, followed by Sejong City and Gwangju City with 59.3 percent and 58.6 percent, respectively.

Analysts explained that many coffee stores are shutting down quickly due to the increased competition in the overly saturated coffee market.

A total of 71,000 coffee shops are currently in business across the country. Despite the high closure rate nationwide, 14,000 new coffee stores opened last year, exceeding the number of coffee shops that ran out of business that year by 5,000.

업계간 경쟁이 심화된 데 따른 것으로 풀이됩니다.

현재 전국에서 7만 1천여 곳의 커피 전문점이 영업 중이며
지난해 창업은 1만 4천 개,
폐업은 9천 개 수준으로
폐업보다 창업이 많은 상황이 지속되고 있습니다.
