Jeju has the highest number interracial marriage in Korea

A study has found that Jeju has the highest percentage of interracial marriage in the country.

According to the National Statistics Office, there were 443 interracial couples that got married last year, marking a 13 percent increase from the previous year. This number accounts for 12 percent of total local marriages, meaning that one out of every 10 married couples in Jeju are interracial.

This is the highest ratio among 17 cities and local governments and exceeds the national average of 10.8%.

On the other hand, the number of divorced interracial couples in Jeju marked the steepest incline at 18.1 percent to 189 cases last year compared to the previous year.

통계청이 발표한
다문화 인구동태 통계에 따르면,
지난해 제주에서 혼인 신고한 다문화 부부는 443쌍으로
전년보다 13% 증가했습니다.

전체 혼인 비중 가운데
다문화 부부가 12%를 차지했으며
전국 평균 10.8%를 웃돌면서
17개 시.도 가운데 가장 높았습니다.

반면 다문화 이혼의 경우
지난해 189건으로 전년보다 18.1% 늘어
전국에서 가장 가파른 증가율을 보였습니다.
