5. Local mandarin orange farmers struggle with low market prices
Fruit prices linger at 6000 won per 5 kilograms

Local farmers are struggling with the low market price of this year’s mandarin oranges.

According to the Jeju Citrus Marketing and Shipping Association, the average price of mandarin oranges sold at wholesale markets nationwide last Saturday was 6,900 won per 5 kilograms. This is a 700 won drop compared to that of the same period last year.

The fruit’s market price has been remaining in the 6,000 won range this year. However, some farms are shipping mandarin oranges even below production costs at 1,500 won per 5 kilograms.

올들어 계속해서 6천원대에 머물고 있고
지난해 같은 기간
7천 600원에 비해 700원 떨어진 것입니다.

특히 최저가는
5kg 한 상자에 1천500원까지 떨어져
일부 농가는 생산비 밑으로 출하하는 경우까지 발생하고 있습니다.
