4. UNCESCO to establish GCIDA in Jeju Stone Park
Province, MoE, UNESCO to jointly operate research center

A Global Research Training Center for Internationally Designated Areas will be established in Jeju Island.

The proposal to establish a global research training center in Jeju was approved at UNESCO’s recent general conference held in Paris, France.

GCIDA is an organization that conducts research and education for preservation, management and sustainable use of protected areas around the world.

The center will be built at Jeju Stone Park. It will be jointly operated by the Ministry of Environment, the provincial government and UNESCO after UNESCO and Seoul signs an agreement.

유네스코 글로벌 국제보호지역 연구훈련센터가 제주에 설립됩니다.

유네스코는 최근 프랑스 파리에서 열린 총회에서
이같은 내용을 승인했습니다.

글로벌 국제보호지역 연구훈련센터는
전 세계 국제보호지역의 보전과 관리,
지속가능한 이용을 위한
연구와 교육을 수행하는 기구로
내년 하반기쯤 돌문화공원에 들어서게 됩니다.

센터는
우리 정부와 유네스코간 협정을 체결한 후
환경부와 제주도,
유네스코 거버넌스에서 공동 운영하게 됩니다.
