1. President Moon to support islander’s decision on 2nd airport
‘Seoul cannot interfere with local matters’

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said he will support the islander’s decision on whether to construct a second airport in Jeju Island.

President Moon held a public Q&A session on Tuesday and received a question on how to solve the conflict surrounding the second airport construction project in Jeju Island.

Moon answered that the Jeju International Airport is completely saturated and that Jeju needs a larger or new airport in the long run for its residents.

He added however, that it is difficult for Seoul to directly intervene in local matters and said he will support the islanders’ decision no matter what.

제2공항 갈등문제 해법을 묻는 질문에
제주공항은 완전히 포화상태로
제주도 발전이나 도민 이동권을 위해
공항 확장이나 제2공항이 필요하다고 말했습니다.

그러면서 정부가 기존공항 확장
또는 제2공항 건설에 직접 개입하기 어렵다며
제주도민이 어떤 선택을 하든
적극 지원하겠다고 덧붙였습니다.
