2. Jeju lemon shipment starts Nov.15
Fruits sold at 6,000 per kilogram

Last Friday, locally produced lemons have been shipped for the first time this year. The fruit is grown as an alternative crop for mandarin oranges.

The Jeju National Agricultural Technology Center said this year’s first batch of Jeju lemons were shipped to Hanaro Nonghyup Mart on November 15th. Full-scale shipment of the fruit will start by the end of this month.

This year’s locally produced lemons are being sold at about 6,000 won per kilogram, which is similar to that of last year. The overall yield is expected to reach 130,000 tons, which is up 5 tons from last year.

The center explained that consumers are showing positive response toward locally produced lemons, although they are about 2,000 won more expensive than a kilogram of imported lemons.

제주도농업기술원 동부농업기술센터는
지난 15일 도내 하나로마트에
올해산 레몬 첫 출하를 시작으로
이달 말부터 본격 출하한다고 밝혔습니다.

올해 출하된 레몬 가격은
지난해와 비슷한 kg당 6천 원에 형성되고 있으며
수확량은 지난해보다 5톤 증가한
13만톤에 이를 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.

제주산 레몬 가격이
수입산 상품보다 kg당 2천 원 가량 높지만
신선도와 안전성 면에서
소비자들로부터 호응을 얻고 있다고
농업기술원은 설명했습니다.
