3. Province recognizes 8,546 additional 4·3 victims and bereaved families
7,700 applications remain pending review

More than 8,500 victims and bereaved families of the April 3rd Incident have been additionally recognized by the provincial government.

The committee working to unveil the truth of the April 3rd Incident and restore the honor of the victims held its 24th committee meeting last Friday and decided to officially recognize 79 victims and 8,400 bereaved family members.

10 bereaved family members were not recognized because the committee could not confirm whether they were related to the victims.

Three of the 12 convicted victims were found to be currently alive after serving their time in prison or escaping while being transferred to prison.

Thus, the number of victims and bereaved family members that have been officially recognized from last year is totalling some 13,000. However, 7,700 applications remain pending review.

희생자로 인정된 수형자 12명 가운데 3명은
군사재판과 일반재판을 받고 복역하거나
형무소 이송 도중 탈출했던 생존 희생자로 확인됐습니다.

이번 추가 인정으로 지난해부터 추가 인정된 희생자와 유족은
1만 3천여 명으로 늘었으며 아직 신고 접수된 7천 700여 명에 대한 결정이 남았습니다.
