Victims demand compensation for human rights violation, trauma

The survivors of the April 3rd Incident who were acquitted of all charges after the court’s ruling last January, filed a damage suit against the government for the unjust conviction and wrongful imprisonment.

A group of bereaved families, acquitted survivors and their families visited the Jeju District Court last Friday and filed for state compensation of 10.3 billion won.

The survivors are demanding the national government to compensate for all the sufferings they had to endure over the past 70 years as ex-convicts due to the illegal military court ruling that violated their human rights.

They held a press conference before entering the court and expressed hopes for a fair ruling that values their dignity and human rights.

국가를 상대로 손해배상청구에 나섰습니다.

4·3수형인과 가족, 유족 대표단은
29일 오전 제주지방법원을 찾아
국가배상청구서를 제출했습니다.

청구 금액은
불법 군법회의로 인한 인권 침해와
출소 이후 70여 년 동안
전과자 신분으로 살아온 정신적 고통과
명예훼손 등에 대한 대가 등 모두 103억 원 입니다.

이들은 청구서 제출에 앞서 기자회견을 열고
4.3희생자들의 인간의 존엄성과 인권의 소중함을 확인하는
판결을 기대한다 밝혔습니다.
