3. 2 new types of mandarin oranges developed
Local researchers to produce seedlings for distribution

The Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services has developed two new varieties of mandarin orange.

The discoveries are expected to reduce the burden on local farming households by reducing the royalty they have had to pay for seed patents and add to the fruit’s variety.

The institute recently announced that it will file an application with the Korea Seed and Variety Service to protect the two new citrus types.

These two new citrus types have higher sugar content and are easier peel than the (황금향)Hwanggeumhyang and Redhyang variety that are harvested in the same season between December and January.

Researchers plan to produce high-quality seedlings for distribution to local farmers after the application.

제주형 신품종 만감류 2종을
품종보호출원할 예정이라고 밝혔습니다.

이번에 출원예정인 2개 품종은
성숙기가 12월과 1월로
같은 시기에 출하되는
황금향이나 레드향에 비해 당도가 높고
껍질을 벗기기 쉽다는 특징을 갖고 있습니다.

농업기술원은 품종보호출원이 되면
우량묘목을 생산해 농가에 보급할 계획입니다.
