4. Jeju ranks 2nd highest for spending per capita
Local large retailers’ sales at bottom in nationwide ranking

Spending per capita in Jeju Island was found to be the second highest in the country, whereas local large retailers’ sales were the lowest.

According to the Honam Regional Statistics Office, the total sales of large retailers with a surface area larger than 3,000 square meters was 540 billion won, which ranked the lowest in the nation.

However, the local spending per capita was 800,000 won, which is the second highest in the country, followed by Gyeonggi-do Province.

Analysts said that this is because tourists add to the aggregate local spendings, but the island’s population is relatively smaller than other regions.

지난해 3천 제곱미터 이상의 도내 대형소매점의 판매액은 5천400억원으로
전국 9개 도 가운데 가장 작았습니다.

반면 인구 1인당 판매액은 80만 원으로
경기도에 이어 두 번째로 많은 것으로 집계됐습니다.

이같은 현상은
다른 지역에 비해 인구가 적지만
관광객들의 소비가 많기 때문인 것으로 풀이됩니다.
