2. Researchers find high biodiversity in Jeju maritime parks
Studied areas found with abundant subtropical and wild animals

A study found high biodiversity in the Jeju maritime parks with a large variety of subtropical animals as well as rare wild species.

The province commissioned the Korea National Park Research Institute to study natural resources in five sites in the island including Chujado Island, Marado Island, Udo Island, Seogwipo and Seongsan Ilchul maritime parks. Researchers found that a large number of species ranging from 770 up to 1,400 live in each park.

In particular, researchers have newly identified 13 endangered species designated by the Ministry of Environment living at the site, including hawks, black-headed snakes and Triton shells.

Researchers also found the areas to be home to subtropical marine life, after they discovered a large cluster of Dendronephthya gigantea for the first time in the island.

자연자원조사 결과 공원마다 770종에서
많게는 1천 400여종의 생물종이 서식하는 것으로 나타났습니다.

특히 환경부 지정 멸종위기야생생물 1급인
매와 비바리뱀, 나팔고둥 등
13가지의 종을 새롭게 확인했습니다.

또 대형 수지맨드라미류 군집을 처음으로 확인하는 등
아열대성 해양생물이 서식하는 것으로 조사됐습니다.
