ICC Jeju, Booyoung Legal Battle Ends

There has been conflicting claims of proprietorship between the Jeju International Convention Center and (부영) Booyoung Group over the underground passage linking the convention facility and Booyoung Jeju Hotel & Resort for three years.
The Supreme Court has recently judged that the passage is owned by ICC Jeju.

A three-year legal battle between the International Convention Center Jeju and Booyoung Group over an underground passageway and retail space has drawn to a close.

Booyoung Group filed a title suit in 2016 after ICC Jeju registered ownership of the underground passageway linking the convention facility and the Booyoung Jeju Hotel & Resort.

[slug] Underground passageway remained closed, retail space went unused
The 40-meter-long, 500-square-meter underground area, which was built by Booyoung Group, has remained closed since its completion. Eight retail spaces in the passageway have also been vacant.

[slug] Legal battle ends in November, passageway set to open soon
Last month the Supreme Court ruled that ICC Jeju is the legal owner, settling the three-year-long legal standoff and making it possible for the passageway to open soon.

[slug] At previous trials, lower courts sided with ICC Jeju on ownership
At the first and second trials, the lower courts found that the underground passageway is both located closer to ICC Jeju and is reliant on the center for electricity and other infrastructure. Thus it ruled that ICC Jeju has ownership of the passage.

The Supreme Court ultimately did not find plaintiff Booyoung Group’s arguments to support their claims.

Now, all eyes are again on the Supreme Court as a 300 million won compensation suit reaches its chambers. In the face of different rulings at the first and second trials, ICC Jeju has filed for monetary damages against Booyoung Group for the delay in the completion and opening of the passageway.
