Bill supports preservation of historical sites

The provincial council has proposed an ordinance to preserve and manage the birthplaces of Korean independence activists in response to KCTV’s report on the poorly managed sites.

Provincial councilor Hyun Kil-ho proposed the bill to pay tribute to the historical significance of the independence movement and preserve the historical sites in Jeju.

The bill stipulates that the governor should preserve and manage the historical landmarks and birthplaces of independence activists. It also mandates the governor to carry out projects to excavate more historical sites and promote them to the public for educational purposes.

In particular, the bill provides legal ground for the province to fund corporations and organizations to conduct projects to preserve and manage the historical sites.

제주도의회가 보존 관리 조례를 발의했습니다.

제주지역 독립운동의 역사적 의미를 기리고
유적지 보존 등의 내용을 담은
독립운동 기념사업 등 지원 조례안을 대표 발의했습니다.

조례안은 제주도지사가
항일독립운동 현장 또는 독립유공자 생가와 거주지 등 유적지를
보존, 관리하고
독립운동 유적지의 발굴과 홍보, 교육사업을 수행하도록 명시했습니다.

특히 유적지 보존 관리 사업을 수행하는
법인이나 단체 등에 대해
예산을 지원할 수 있는 근거를 포함했습니다.
