2. Prosecutors appeal against acquittal of 2 public officials
They are accused of releasing false information

The local prosecutor’s office appealed against the Gwangju High Court’s recent ruling to overturn the original verdict and acquit two public officials that were charged for releasing false information under the Public Official Election Act.

The two were charged for spreading false information about JDC chairman Moon Dae-lim, who was running against Governor Won Hee-ryong in the last local elections, while they are working in Won's camp. They had made comments that Moon played golf right after the Democratic paty of Korea's candidate election and released them to the press.

Judge Lee Jae-kwon previously stated in his ruling that the informant’s testimony about Moon Dae-rim at the time was very reliable and that it cannot be determined whether the offenders purposely released false information.

제주지방검찰청은
공직선거법 위반 혐의로 기소돼
지난 4일 열린 항소심에서 무죄를 선고 받은
제주도청 소속 55살 강 모 공보관과
언론비서관 41살 고모 씨에 대해 상고했다고 밝혔습니다.

강 씨 등은
선거를 앞둔 지난해 5월 25일
문 전 후보가
더불어민주당 도지사 경선 직후 골프를 쳤다는 내용이 담긴
논평을 언론사에 배포한 혐의로 기소됐습니다.

항소심 재판부는
당시 제보자의 진술에 신빙성이 높아
강 씨 등이 허위사실을 알렸다고 단정할 수 없다며
무죄를 선고한 바 있습니다.
