3. 2018 Jeju tourism income surpasses 6 trillion won
Number of domestic and foreign tourists steadily drops

Although the number of tourists visiting Jeju has been decreasing, it is estimated that the amount of tourism income has increased, exceeding 6 trillion won for the first time.

According to the 2018 Jeju Tourism Trend Annual Report published by the Jeju Tourism Organization, the preliminary value of last year’s local tourism income was 6.54 trillion won. 4 trillion won came from domestic spendings and 2.5 trillion won from foreigners.

This is an increase of 840 billion won from 5.7 trillion won in 2017.

However, the total number of both domestic and foreign tourists continued to drop from 15.85 million in 2016 to 14.75 million in 2017 and 14.31 million last year.

JTO believes that the increase in tourism income has been caused by the change in travel patterns due to the increasing proportion of individual travelers among domestic and foreign tourists.

관광 조수입은 오히려 늘어
사상 처음 6조원을 넘은 것으로 잠정 집계됐습니다.

제주관광공사가 발표한
2018년 제주관광동향 연차보고서에 따르면
지난해 제주관광 조수입 잠정치는
6조 5천 390억 원으로
내국인이 4조원, 외국인이 2조 5천억 원으로 집계됐습니다.

전년도인 2017년 확정치인 5조 7천억 원보다
8천 390억 원 증가한 규모입니다.

반면 관광객은 내국인과 외국인을 포함해
2016년 1천 585만명에서
2017년 1천 475만명,
지난해에는 1천 431만명까지 줄었습니다.

관광공사는
개별관광객 비율이 내.외국인 모두 해마다 늘어
여행형태가 변화하면서
조수입도 증가한 것으로 보고 있습니다.
