4. Province receives increased complaints from foreign workers
Officials consult 1,900 case of unpaid wages

With the increasing number of complaints from foreign workers in Jeju Island, it was found that half of the consultations were about unpaid wages.

According to the province, the local support center for foreign workers provided 4,800 counseling sessions this year through November, which is nearly double that of the same period last year.

Number of consultations regarding delayed payment was the highest with more than 1,900 cases, followed by business location change, immigration and violence.

Chinese workers accounted for half of the consultees, followed by Nepalese, Vietnamese and Filipino workers.

외국인 근로자 민원 증가…임금체불 최다

제주도내 외국인 근로자의 민원이 늘고 있는 가운데
임금체불분야가 가장 많은 것으로 나타나고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면
올들어 지난달까지 근로자 지원센터에서의
외국인 근로자 상담건수는
4천 800여건으로
지난해 같은 기간에 비해 2배 가까이 늘었습니다.

상담 유형별로 보면
임금체불이 1천 900여건으로 가장 많았고,
사업장변경, 출입국관련, 폭행 등이 뒤를 이었습니다.

상담을 신청하는 외국인 근로자는
중국인이 절반을 차지했고,
네팔과 베트남, 필리핀 순으로 많았습니다.
