4. Number of young adults in Jeju to drop by 33% in 30 years
Youth only consists of 27% of Jeju’s total population

The youth population from ages between 19 to 39 in Jeju is expected to decrease by 33 percent in 30 years.

According to the Jeju’s youth statistics released by the province and Honam Regional Statistics Office, the local youth population stood at 177,000 as of last year, accounting for 27 percent of the total population.

The figure is expected to drop by 33 percent to 119,000 people after 30 years in 2047.

The population of young adults showed a meager growth of 7.6 percent compared to 2010, whereas the total population grew by 16.8 percent.

The number of young people who moved to Jeju last year dropped by some 1700 to 3,100 from 4,800 in 2017.

제주도내 만 19살에서 39살까지 청년 인구가
30년 후에는
지금보다 30% 넘게 줄어들 것이란 전망이 나왔습니다.

제주도와 호남지방통계청이 발표한
제주도 청년통계에 따르면
지난해 기준 도내 청년인구는 17만 7천여 명으로
전체의 27%를 차지했습니다.

반면 30년 후인 2047년에는
11만 9천명 정도로
지금보다 33% 감소할 것으로 전망됐습니다.

실제 2010년 대비 제주도 인구는 16.8% 증가했지만
청년 인구는 7.6% 늘어나는 데 그쳤습니다.

지난해 제주로 순유입된 청년 인구도 3천 100여 명으로
전년도 4천 800여 명보다 줄었습니다.
