1. Governor Won opposes referendum on 2nd airport construction project
Information sessions planned to be held

Governor Won Hee-ryong said the public opinion poll should not determine the fate of the construction project of the island’s second airport.

In an interview with reporters on Tuesday, Governor Won stressed that it is not up to himself to decide whether or not the new airport construction project should proceed. He said Seoul has already thoroughly verified the necessity of the project and determined its need.

However, he explained that he will provide sufficient information to the islanders and communicate with them regarding the project through information sessions.

He also said he will not run or intervene in next year's general elections, but will help reform opposition parties

원 지사는 24일 방송 출입기자 인터뷰에서
제2공항은 여러 검증 끝에 정부에서 필요한 사업으로
추진 중인데
이를 원점으로 돌리는 주민투표는
부적절하고 도지사 권한도 아니라고
강조했습니다.

다만 제2공항 갈등은
도민 설명회 등을 통해 충분한 정보를 제공하고
소통하면서 풀어가겠다고 설명했습니다.

또 내년 총선에
출마 또는 개입하지는 않겠지만,
야권 쇄신을 위해 힘을 보태겠다고 말했습니다.
