Island Investigations on Club Drugs Last month, a drug trafficking and distribution network involved in selling drugs such as Ecstasy and Ketamine in karaoke bars and foreigner-exclusive clubs in South (경상) Gyeongsang Province was apprehended by the Coast Guard. Amidst a series of drug crimes occurring in clubs and bars nationwide, a similar drug offender has been arrested in Jeju as well. A man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, who was formerly affiliated with a club, has been arrested last month on suspicion of possessing dozens of Ecstasy pills and consuming them. Jeju District Prosecutor's Office has indicted Mr. A on charges of drug possession and consumption, and they have also announced that they are conducting supplementary investigations into individuals who were involved in drug consumption with him. Ecstasy, a new type of drug, is known as a "club drug" as it is primarily consumed by young people. It has a hallucinogenic effect that is three times stronger than that of methamphetamine. INTERVIEW Jo Gwang-won / Jeju Office, Korean Society of Drug Abuse Ecstasy is known to produce hallucinogenic effects that can induce a significant elevation in mood. It is indeed a drug that is commonly used by young people. The Jeju Provincial Police Agency has stated that this case is unrelated to clubs, and it is difficult to disclose specific details regarding the case, including the specific charges, as the investigation is still ongoing. According to the Korea Customs Service, the amount of newly identified drugs seized last year was 260 kg, which is more than a tenfold increase compared to two years ago. Among them, the quantity of Ecstasy seizures increased by seven times during the same period. With the recent arrest of an Ecstasy drug offender in Jeju, there is growing interest in whether the crimes are linked to related industries, as seen in nationwide cases, rather than being isolated incidents of individual crimes. The investigation results regarding any potential spread of crime to associated sectors have garnered significant attention. 제주에도 클럽 마약?…경찰 수사 확대 지난 달 경남에 있는 노래주점과 외국인 전용 클럽 등에서 엑스터시와 케타민 등 마약류를 판매한 판매책과 유통 조직이 해경에 검거됐습니다. 전국적으로 클럽이나 술집에서 마약 범죄가 잇따르는 가운데 제주에서도 유사 마약 사범이 검거됐습니다. 모 클럽 관계자였던 30대 A 씨가 지난 달 엑스터시 수십 정을 소지하고 투약한 혐의로 구속됐습니다. 제주지검은 A 씨를 마약류 소지와 투약 혐의로 구속 기소했고 함께 투약한 이들에 대해서도 보완 수사를 진행하고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 엑스터시는 필로폰보다 환각 작용이 3배나 큰 신종 마약류로 젊은 층이 주로 투약하면서 일명 클럽용 마약으로도 알려졌습니다. <인터뷰 : 고광언/ 한국마약범죄학회 제주지회장> 엑스터시를 투약하면 환각작용을 일으켜서 기분이 아주 상승되는 효과를 누리는 마약으로 알려지고 있습니다. 젊은 사람들이 많이 이용하는 마약으로 보면 되겠습니다. 제주경찰청은 이번 사건은 클럽과는 무관하다면서도 구체적인 혐의점 등은 수사가 진행 중이여서 밝히기 어렵다고 전했습니다. 지난해 관세청이 적발한 신종 마약류는 260kg으로 2년 전보다 10배 이상 급증했습니다. 이 가운데 엑스터시 적발 물량은 같은 기간 7배나 늘었습니다. 제주에서도 엑스터시 마약 사범이 검거된 가운데 개인의 단순 범죄가 아닌 전국 사례처럼 연관 업종으로 범죄가 퍼졌을지 수사 결과에 관심이 모아지고 있습니다.

The tax breaks is being revived in two years after it was terminated in 2017. The provincial government will cut 75 percent of consumption tax on membership-based golf courses for 2 years, starting next year. Each golf player will be able to enjoy about 15,000 won of tax cuts. The provincial government expects the tax breaks to bring benefits of 23 billion won to the local economy by attracting more golfers. 제주골프장 개별소비세 감면 내달부터 부활 제주지역 골프장에서의 개별소비세 감면혜택이 다음달부터 다시 시행됩니다. 개별소비세 감면규모는 75%로 1인당 대략 1만 5천원대이며 오는 2021년까지 2년간 한시적으로 적용됩니다. 이번 개별소비세 감면으로 230억원대의 혜택을 볼 것으로 제주도는 기대하고 있습니다. 제주지역 골프장에 대한 개별소비세 감면은 지난 2017년부터 2년간 한시적으로 시행되다 중단됐고 이번에 2년만에 부활되는 것입니다.

That’s three times higher than previous years. Prices of seasonal cabbage have also skyrocketed. Wholesale prices of radish have increased 3.2 times that compared with last year. Cabbage has doubled and carrots are 1.5 times more expensive. [slug] Autumn typhoon, heavy rains reduce production An autumn typhoon and heavy rains hit the island during the sowing season. That reduced cultivation areas and production. That combination of negative factors has driven up prices. The high prices of this year’s winter vegetables has put a burden on home economies. Kimchi-making season has arrived, but consumers are unwilling to loosen the purse strings. The municipal office secured 500 million won from next year's budget to provide preventive facilities such as roe deer nets. Each farms can receive support of up to 3 million won. Community centers at eup, myeon and dong administrative districts will accept applications through January 23rd. The final roll of beneficiaries will be decided in February. Since 2011, Jeju City has provided 2,200 farms with 4.8 billion won in funds to prevent crop damage from wild animals. 제주시, 야생동물 피해예방시설 농가 지원 제주시가 야생동물 피해 예방시설을 농가에 지원합니다. 제주시는 내년도 예산 5억 원을 확보해 노루망 같은 예방시설을 농가당 최대 300만 원 한도로 지원할 예정입니다. 지원 신청은 다음달 23일까지 읍면동에서 접수하며 내년 2월 최종 대상자가 선정됩니다. 제주시는 지난 2011년 부터 2천 200여 농가에 야생동물 피해예방 시설비 48억 여 원을 지원했습니다.

The candidate pledges will also be uploaded on the council’s official website. On top of this, the council will later hold a press conferences on January 8th for all candidates.   • Jeju Sea Levels Rising Fast
  • Over the last three decades, the sea level around the island has risen more than 4 millimeters every year on average. That’s the highest in the nation and the rate of rise has been increasing. Todd Thacker reports. Since 1989, the sea level around Jeju has risen on average 4.26 millimeters annually. That is a 13 centimeter increase in the last three decades. The national annual average is 2.97 millimeters per year. Levels for the West Sea, South Sea and East Sea are below 3.5 millimeters. Jeju waters have recorded the highest sea level rise at 4.26 millimeters annually. By region, the sea level observation station in Jeju City observed the highest increase at 5.43 millimeters. Seogwipo City measured the same as the national average. A major issue of concern is that the rate is increasing. [slug] Global warming accelerates, melting glaciers and raising ocean temperatures The culprit is the acceleration of global warming. Excessive emissions of carbon dioxide is heating the planet. Ocean temperatures rise and glaciers melt as the climate warms, increasing the overall volume of the sea. INTERVIEW Yi Eun-il / Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency The warm Tsushima current could contribute to faster sea level rise in Jeju waters. Province asks Seoul for official land prices increase rate under 5% Official land prices in Jeju rose 87% over the past 5 years Local officials visited both the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the headquarters of the Korea Appraisal Board to ask Seoul to implement low increase rates for local official land prices under 5 percent next year. This is due to the reduced social welfare benefits and increase in tax burden for islanders as the local official land prices recently recorded the highest increase rate in the country. The official land prices in increased by 27.77% in 2016, 19% in 2017, 17.51% in 2018 and 10.70% this year, amounting to a total increase of 87% over the past five years. "내년 제주 공시지가 상승률 5% 이하 건의" 제주특별자치도가 국토교통부와 한국감정원 본사를 잇따라 방문해 내년 표준지 공시지가의 상승률을 5% 이하로 낮춰줄 것을 건의했습니다. 최근 제주지역 공시지가가 전국 최고의 상승률을 기록하면서 사회복지 혜택감소와 조세부담 가중 등 부작용이 발생하고 있는데에 따른 조치입니다. 제주지역 개별공시지가의 최근 상승률을 보면 2016년 27.77%, 2017년 19%, 2018년 17.51%, 올해 10.70%로 지난 5년동안 87%를 기록하고 있습니다.
