4. Helicopter 'Surion' deployed to Jeju Coast Guard
Full-scale operation to begin after March

Helicopter Surion, which is made in Korea, has been deployed to the Jeju Coast Guard.

The Jeju Coast guard recently announced a Surion helicopter will be deployed to Jeju. It said the device will be put into full-scale operation after going through a stabilization period until March next year.

Surion was developed by Korea Aerospace Industries. The helicopter is equipped with a search radar that automatically tracks up to 200 targets and an electro-optical infrared camera that can detect for objects 360 degrees.

The coast guard plans to use the helicopter to strengthen maritime policing, manage various marine accidents and transfer emergency patients.

국산 헬기 수리온이 제주해경에 배치됐습니다.

제주지방해양경찰청은
최근 제주해경청 항공단에
수리온 1대를 배치하고
내년 3월까지 안정화 기간을 거친 뒤
실전에 투입한다고 밝혔습니다.

KAI가 개발한 수리온은
최대 200개의 표적을 자동추적하는 탐색레이더와
360도 전방위 탐지가 가능한 전기광학 적외선 카메라를 갖추고 있습니다.

해경은
증가하는 해상 치안활동과
각종 해상 사고, 응급환자 이송 등에 헬기를 활용할 계획입니다.
