1. JDC under fire for DFS supplier refunds
Auditors cite unlawful omission of documentation

The Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea (BAI) has said that the Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC) used its position of power to unlawfully give refunds to its suppliers for unsold duty-free items.

The JDC denied any wrongdoing, saying that this was standard practice in the duty-free industry.

Officials from the JDC explained that when sales are sluggish, it is a common practice for duty-free items that are underperforming to be exchanged for more popular products.

Board auditors, though, pointed out that the JDC made the refunds to suppliers without proper documentation, thus violating the law.

JDC는 입장문을 내고
판매부진으로 인한 재고나 원천불량 등이 발생했을 때
공급업자가 자발적으로 납품을 요청하면
소비 선호도가 높은 신상품으로 납품받는 게
동종업계의 관행이었다고 설명했습니다.

앞서 감사원은
납품업자 반품에는 서면 요청서가 있어야 하는데
JDC 면세점의 경우 근거자료 없이 반품 처리해
관련 법을 위반했다고 지적했습니다.
