5. Seogwipo City selected as Korea's first 'cultural city'
105 villages to cooperate to cultivate its unique ‘noji’ culture

Seogwipo City will be designated as Korea’s first ‘cultural city’ by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and will consequently receive state funding.

According to Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Wi Seong-gon, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has designated Seogwipo City as the first cultural city in Korea after reviewing the results of the preliminary project that was carried out over the past year.

The Ministry will provide 10 billion won in state funds for five years to Seogwipo City from next year to help the region plan and execute projects to cultivate the city’s culture and environment.

Thus, officials plan to push various projects with 105 villages in Seogwipo City to promote its unique ‘noji’ culture.

서귀포시, 국내 첫 '문화도시'로 최종 지정

지난 1년간 예비사업 결과를 검토해
제1차 문화도시로 서귀포시를 지정했습니다.

문화도시 조성사업은
지역 스스로 도시의 문화 환경을 기획하고
실현할 수 있도록
내년부터 5년 동안 국비 100억 원을 지원하게 됩니다.

서귀포시는
'105개 마을이 가꾸는 노지 문화 사업'을 주제로
도농복합체라는 특수성에 따라
마을을 기반으로 한
다양한 문화 사업을 추진할 계획입니다.
