This new year brings a change in the way local communities will be represented, as community leaders will now be selected by area residents instead of being appointed by the governor.

They are representatives of their community who are commissioned to choose a community leader.
They thoroughly review work experience and pledges of the candidates, and share their thoughts.
Soon, the candidates announce their pledges and plans to take care of their community.
The representatives listen carefully to decide who is the most qualified person.

The autonomous community leader selection system has been introduced to (이도) Ido 2-dong, Jeju City on a trial basis for the first time in Jeju.

63 representatives of area residents voluntarily join the community leader selection process.
They are from various backgrounds and their ages range between their twenties and seventies.

5 representatives out of 63 will be questioned about local issues including environment and welfare. The most qualified candidate will be chosen by vote.

The candidate who garners the most votes will be appointed by the governor during the provincial personnel reshuffle this month.



[slug] Daejeong-eup also introduces new leader selection process

Next week, leading candidates of (대정읍) Dajeong-eup in Seogwipo City will also be interviewed by residents and then the residents will place their vote.

Community leaders are being selected by area residents to live up to the name of the self-governing province.
