4. “Car-free zone” in Gwandeokjeong district will help boost economy
57% of locals agree car-free streets will benefit region

According to a survey conducted by the Jeju Municipal Office, the establishment of a “car-free zone” in the Gwandeokjeong area will help boost the local economy.

A survey was conducted by "Art Space Cucumber" where 201 business owners and residents near Gwandeokjeong last November and December were interviewed. The results showed that 63 percent of the respondents said operating car-free streets on a regular basis would positively affect the local economy.

On the other hand, 57 percent said traffic and lack of parking were the most negative factors, followed by noise and waste pollution.

The Jeju Municipal Office has agreed with the residents’ concerns and is considering to push for a car-free zone.

관덕정 부근 상가업주와 주민 201명을 대상으로
1대 1 면접조사를 실시한 결과

응답자의 63%가 정기적으로 차 없는 거리를 운영할 경우
지역경제 활성화 효과가 있을 것이라고 응답했습니다.

반면 부정적인 요소로
교통과 주차 불편이라는 응답이 57%로 가장 많았고
이어 행사 소음, 쓰레기 순으로 나타났습니다.

제주시는
주민과 공감대를 형성하고
불편 우려 사항에 대한 해소 방안을 마련한 뒤
차 없는 거리 추진을 검토하기로 했습니다.
