Airport burdened with increasing number of tourists

Jeju International Airport has reached maximum capacity.

According to the Korea Airports Corporation, 31.31 million people passed through Jeju airport just in 2019. This is 98.7% of the airport’s total capacity.

The number of flights that operated through the airport in 2019 increased by 4.2% since the year before, to reach an all time high of 175,000 flights. This is over the maximum capacity of the airport.

It is expected that the current dilemma will become progressively problematic as the number of tourists increases on the island.

제주국제공항 활주로와 여객 수용능력이
모두 한계치에 도달한 것으로 나타났습니다.

한국공항공사에 따르면
지난해 제주공항 연간 이용객은 3천 131만 명으로
여객 수용능력의 98.7%에 달했습니다.

지난해 제주공항에 이·착륙한 항공기는
모두 17만 5천여편으로
2018년에 비해 4.2% 증가해 역대 최고치를 기록했습니다.

이는 현재 활주로의
항공기 수용 능력을 초과한 것으로
앞으로 관광객이 늘어날 경우
포화 문제가 더 심화될 전망입니다.
