2. Eligible high school voters in Jeju stands at 1,996
POE to educate young voters on political process

The number of students on Jeju Island who are eligible to vote stood at 1,996, with the decision to lower the election age from 19 to 18.

According to the Jeju Provincial Office of Education, among 6,100 high school students this year, 32 percent of the students are aged 18 or older.

The education authorities plan to revise school rules that used to limit and regulate political activities of students as eligible students are now able to engage in political activities, such as joining political parties.

The office of education plans to educate the young voters on the extent of their election campaigns or political party activities as instructed by the Ministry of Education before the general elections in April.

올해 고등학교 3학년이 되는 6천 100 여명 가운데
만 18살 이상 학생 수는
32% 수준이라고 밝혔습니다.

교육당국은 학생의 정당 가입 등 정치 활동이 가능해지면서
그동안 정치 활동을 규제하는
학교 규칙도 제·개정할 계획입니다.

특히 4월 총선 이전에 교육부의 지침이 나오는대로
청소년 유권자의 학내 선거운동이나
정당활동 범위 등에 대해 교육할 예정입니다
