1. The number of people traveling through Jeju Airport hits all-time high
Over 31 million travelers recorded last year

The number of passengers traveling through Jeju International Airport has been declining in recent years, but the numbers began an upward trend starting last year.

According to the National Statistical Office (NSO), Jeju Airport marked the largest number of passengers in history last year with 31.31 million travelers.

The airport had the second largest number of passengers among 15 airports in the country, with the first being Incheon International Airport.

The number decreased in 2017 and 2018 due to China's THAAD deployment, but increased by 1.86 million passengers in a dramatic turnaround in 2019.

The trend is attributed to an increase in the number of tourists visiting Jeju instead of Japan due to Japan's economic retaliation measures.

지난해 제주공항 이용객은
3천 131만 6천 여 명으로
역대 가장 많은 수로 집계됐습니다.

전국 15개 공항 가운데
인천공항에 이어 두 번째로 많은 것입니다.

제주공항은 특히
사드 배치에 따른 중국의 금한령으로
2017년과 2018년 이용객이 감소세를 보였지만
지난해에는 전년보다 186만여 명 증가했습니다.

이 같은 추세는
일본 경제보복 조치에 따라
일본 대신 제주를 찾는 관광객 수가 늘었기 때문으로
분석되고 있습니다.
