5. Largest outmigration reported in Jeju for first time since 2012
Net inflow of 2019 only 20% of 2016

More people have left Jeju Island than have come to reside here according to last month’s population statistics. It is the first time since December 2011 that the island has recorded a net outflow.

According to the National Statistical Office (NSO), the population influx of Jeju Island in December last year was 8,627, with outmigration reported at 8,651.

The net population inflow in Jeju last year was about 3,000, which is only 20% of the number in 2016 when Jeju’s population inflow hit its peak.

제주이주 열풍이 시들해지면서
순유입 인구도 8년만에 마이너스로 돌아섰습니다.

통계청에 따르면
지난달 제주도 전입인구는 8천627명인 반면
전출인구는 8천651명으로 24명이 많았습니다.

제주에서 월별 유출인구가 유입인구를 앞지른 것은
지난 2011년 12월 이후 8년 만입니다.

한편 지난해 순유입 인구는 3천명 정도로
이주열풍이 최고조에 달했던 지난 2016년의 20% 수준에 그쳤습니다.
