1. Illegal immigrants urged to undergo coronavirus testing
Police Agency will not require personal information

Illegal immigrants residing in Jeju Island will be allowed to undergo testing for coronavirus.

The Jeju Provincial Police Agency has decided to remove the process of reporting personal information to allow illegal residents to get tested without worry of deportation.

The agency has asked all illegal immigrants to undergo testing if they experience any suspicious symptoms.

There is an estimated 13,000 illegal residents on Jeju Island as of 2018, and the new policy comes in the midst of a crackdown on illegal immigration. There is currently an exemption on fines and prohibition of entry for illegal residents who return to their home country voluntarily by June.

제주지방경찰청은
불법 체류 외국인이라도
강제추방 부담 없이 신종 코로나 검사를 받도록
신상정보 통보의무를 면제하기로 했습니다.

경찰은 불법 체류 신분이더라도
코로나 감염이 의심될 경우
의료기관에서 검진받을 것을 부탁했습니다.

한편 도내 불법 체류자는
2018년 기준 1만 3천여 명에 달하고 있으며
경찰은 6월까지 자진 출국하면
범칙금과 입국금지를 면제해줄 방침입니다.
