3. Koh Yoo-jeong sentenced to life imprisonment for murder of ex-husband
Declared innocent for murder of stepson

Koh Yoo-jeong has been sentenced to life imprisonment after the first trial of the murder of her ex-husband and step-son.

Judge Jung Bong-ki (정봉기) of the second criminal division of the Jeju District Court sentenced Koh to life imprisonment on February 20th for murder, desecration of a human corpse and concealing the corpse of her ex-husband.

The court explained that the harsh sentence was handed down to Koh for committing a deliberate crime with the intention of killing her ex-husband, and showing no signs of remorse or guilt.

However, as there is still no evidence that directly ties Koh to the murder of her stepson, the prosecution could only present circumstantial evidence, which was not enough to convict her. She was consequently declared innocent of the murder of her stepson.

고유정이 전 남편을 살해할 의도를 가지고
계획적인 범행을 저질렀지만
이에 대한 죄책감은 찾아볼 수 없다며
이에 상응한 처벌이 불가피 하다며 양형이유를 설명했습니다.

다만 의붓아들의 살해 혐의에 대해서는
고유정이 살인을 저질렀다는 직접 증거가 없는 상황에서
검찰이 제시한 정황 증거들로만
범죄를 인정하기 어렵다며 무죄 판결을 내렸습니다.
