7. Positive effect from the ‘reduction policy’ of the unused groundwater
4 million tons decrease in water usage

The Jeju Provincial Government’s policy for reducing groundwater consumption is fostering positive results.

The provincial government announced that the policy reduced the amount of water made available, based on last year’s total consumption.

The amount of water allocated was reduced by 30 percent. Total water consumption for the island was reduced by 4 million tons at 167 water wells.

The Island is reducing the amount of underground water use by identifying the total usage every time they release permits. They are planning to expand the scope of the reduction through improvements to the system.

7. 사용량 적은 지하수 '감량 정책' 효과

지하수 취수량 감량 정책이 비교적 효과를 거두고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도는
취수 허가량의 절반 미만을 사용하고 있는 지하수 관정에 대해
최대 30%까지 허가량 자체를 감량한 결과
전체 관정의 약 4%인 167곳에서
399만여 톤을 줄였다고 밝혔습니다.

감량된 취수량을 용도별로 보면
사설 관정에서 78%,
공공 관정에서 22% 감량됐고
식품접객과 농업용수의 감량 물량이 컸습니다.

제주도는
지하수 취수를 연장 허가할 때마다
이용량을 파악해 허가량을 감량하고 있으며
앞으로 제도개선을 통해
감량 범위를 넓혀나갈 계획입니다.
